NRS 451 Professionalism and Social Media
Social media plays a significant role in the lives of nurses in both their professional and personal lives. Additionally, social media is now considered a mainstream part of the process for recruiting and hiring candidates. Inappropriate or unethical conduct on social media can create legal problems for nurses as well as the field of nursing.

Login to all social media sites in which you engage. Review your profile, pictures and posts. Based on the professional standards of nursing, identify items that would be considered unprofessional and potentially detrimental to your career and that negatively impact the reputation of the nursing field.

In 500-750 words, summarize the findings of your review. Include the following:

Describe the posts or conversations in which you have engaged that might be considered inappropriate based on the professional standards of nursing.
Discuss why nurses have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with the standards governing the profession of nursing at work and in their personal lives. Include discussion of how personal conduct can violate HIPAA or be considered unethical or unprofessional. Provide an example of each to support your answer.
Based on the analysis of your social media, discuss what areas of your social media activity reflect Christian values as they relate to respecting human value and dignity for all individuals. Describe areas of your social media activity that could be improved.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Create a mandated reporter scenario and post it. Respond to one of your peer’s scenarios using the guidelines for submission/reporting in your state. Be sure to include a reference to your state’s website related to mandated reporting.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 3
Mandatory reporting is a process of reporting suspected abuse in populations at risk including things like: child, elder, and spousal abuse, (Iowa Board of Nursing, 2019). In our facility, anyone who is a mandatory reporter who believes that they have evidence of or have witnessed abuse must report it to their charge nurse or leader, who then reports it to the nursing supervisor and to a social worker. The DHS of Iowa has provided a sheet to fill out and submit so that they can then evaluate the case and assess for abuse. NRS 451 Topic 1: Theories and Concepts in Leadership and Management
The responsibilities of a Mandatory Reporter, according to Iowa DHS, include
“Make an oral report of suspected child abuse within 24 hours when they reasonably believe a child has suffered abuse (in accordance with Iowa Code section 232.69).
Make a written report within 48 hours after the oral report (in accordance with Iowa Code section 232.70).
Download the Report of Suspected Child Abuse form.
Call 911 or make an oral report to law enforcement when they believe a child is in need of immediate protection (in accordance with Iowa Code section 232.70).
Know and identify potential child abuse as defined in Iowa Code section 232.68.” (Iowa Department of Human Services, 2019)
To offically begin filing a claim with DHS and reporting a case, the reporter must call DHS, and report what happened, who was involved, what was heard or seen, when did it happen, what actions have been taken already, the name, age, and condition of the child, the identity of the suspected abusers, and the information of the person contacting DHS (DHS, 2019).

A classic example of suspected child abuse is something like a spiral fracture with a story that doesn’t add up, combined with a parent who won’t leave the child alone, is very defensive and won’t let their child speak for themselves. If I were the nurse taking care of this patient, I would first go to my charge nurse for a second opinion and further evaluation, then follow the policy in place for mandatory reporting within the organization.
